Horseman George Stark has a heritage strongly rooted in horses. His father, John Thomas Stark, was the trainer for the Bing Crosby Thoroughbred Farm from 1937 to 1944. During his tenure, California's Thoroughbred Magazine named him Horseman of the Year.

George's earliest memories are full of lavish stories about his father's career and he attributes his love of horses to the elder Stark's memoirs and his own childhood and career experiences.

His vast knowledge of horses has been honed over a lifetime of shoeing, exercising, starting, training and breeding horses.

While running his Farrier business, he took classes in saddle making from a local boot and saddle shop. Here, he discovered his knack for leather crafting. This revelation spawned a new passion.

A combination of skill, experience and wisdom led him to a new line of business at Starks Saddlery. His understanding of how a saddle should fit both the horse and rider is rapidly gaining him notoriety as a custom saddle builder. Today, most of his time is devoted to fashioning uniquely individualized saddles. George offers a diversity of customized, high quality and original leather products. See him in his new shop at Ghost Rock Ranch making saddles and working with our horses.

Mika started riding lessen at seven years old. At eight years old she had a fall from a horse. She was longing to get back up and ride but she was scared and her mother and I were scared she wouldn’t master her fear and give up something she loved to do. So we chose to look for help locally. After talking to a lot of people we were continuously being turned to Ghost Rock Ranch so we decided to take a look. What we found was a locally owned and operated facility that had all the things we were needing - indoor arena for year round riding, bathrooms, and to complete it small town hospitality that made for a warm welcome from the whole staff. The facility beat our expectations and finding out they would work with us on Mika’s level. Well after a few private lessons with George, Mika is up and riding and doing extremely well she is now doing group lessons with Cindy and growing her skills and confidence. We participated in our first Play Day in 2009 and we loved it. We’ve made some new friends and I can't think of a better way to spend time with a young lady than to watch her grow in something that she loves so much to do.
I would like to give many thanks to Cherie and to the staff for the friendships and the use of a beautiful facility and the warm heart felt love we feel every time were there.

Thanks, William & Lori McMichael
