Matt Wilson – Trainer, Working Cowboy, Father.
Matt has been riding since the age of 9 and earning a living in the saddle since 12.
His experience in various “riding disciplines” include “training performance horses” for local trainers – starting with reining and cutting, then later ventured into the English disciplines. He’s ridden races horses off the track and developed them into Grand Prix jumping prospects under Gary Henley.
He believes dressage is the key to a well developed equine partner. He uses many dressage basics in the development of a ‘bridle’ horse.
He left the training world to work full-time in the Great Basin on ranches and to buckaroo. He loves the freedom of working outdoors on horseback and applies his skills to working horse which include Mustangs.
Working cattle by horseback include many skills- cutting, sorting, trailing and roping.
His skills have rounded out a strong belief that a horse should be safe and responsive as the rider’s life depends on it … but still allows other family members to ride and enjoy the foundations of a well trained horse for pleasure.
